Dollar Tree Inc
Ideas, Updates & Analysis
Both Dollar General and Dollar Tree released earnings this week.
And both stocks got hit hard percentage-wise.
"Dollar General Corporation, one of the largest discount retailers, came out with first-quarter fiscal 2018 results, wherein earnings of $1.36 missed the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $1.40 but improved 33.3% from the prior-year quarter."
"Dollar Tree Inc., one of the leading operators of discount stores, delivered first-quarter fiscal 2018 adjusted earnings of $1.19 per share that lagged the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $1.23. However, earnings grew 21.4% year over year."
In both cases, the year or year (YOY) earnings grew by a significant percentage.
As far as I can tell, the negative reaction was because each company "missed" the earnings estimates, but not by that much really, only 4 cents.
There may be an opportunity for a short-term trade.
I'll be watching both stocks over the next few days for the price to consolidate.
